Make Me Over...Please!!!

Do I look surprised?

El Diabla

I'm not even moving my face!

Please Stop the Madness!!!
Do you think I look a hot ass mess???  Of course I do, and so do you!!!  None of this is cute and it needs to stop now!!! Unless you are a Cholita Gangster from 1995 or Eminem's ex wife Kim, this foolery is absolutely unacceptable!  The first faux pas that a lot of women fall victim of is picking the wrong foundation. Foundation should blend in with your neck and you shouldn't be able to tell that you have any on. The florescent lights in stores alter the color a bit, so the true test of the perfect color is to view it in natural light. Make up virgins should seek a professional at a department store.  If your budget doesn't permit you to buy over priced over the counter make up then you should bring a good friend (that will tell you the truth) to help you find the right shade for you at your local drugstore. Several drug stores, like CVS will take back make up even if its been used, so there is no excuse not to get the right shade. Next on the chopping block is this silver/white eyeliner mess. Many of my sistas think that this is flattering but it's really not, again a tragedy!  You should use the shimmer pencil as a highlight not the focal point of the eye. The next make up application could be the biggest sin of them all. Ladies do not, I repeat DO NOT DRAW YOUR EYEBROWS WITH A BLACK PENCIL!!!!! Point, Blank, Period!!!!  You  should use a dark brown pencil and follow the natural shape of your brow to fill in spaces, these exaggerated expressions will make you look like a clown or as you see here I look like the devil himself. I don't care how dark your hair is,doing your brows in this manner is an absolute No No. Again please seek a professional if you do not know how to arch your eye brows, it will change your life and complete the look of any make-up application. The crème de la crème of make up mishaps is brown lip liner or Heaven forbid black eyeliner on your lips!  First things first, BLACK EYE LINER IS NOT FOR YOUR LIPS!!! Several of my Black and Latina sistas fall victim to this. A lot of us women of color own a brown lip liner but the key to this application as is every other make up application is BLEND, BLEND, BLEND!!!  Cosmetics are supposed to enhance your beauty, not make you look like a train wreck.  Please if you have a friend or close associate that needs
to be politely checked about her war paint then please do so, she'll thank you later! ;) winking

This should be the end result

DO                                                    Don't

Passions Pastries

Sweet Potato Cupcake

Sun-Kissed Orange

Lemon Drop
So the rumors are true, after a short hiatus Passions Pastries and Cupcakery is back in full effect.  After months of stalking(yes I was a creeper) I finally tracked down owner Darlene and her tasty treats.  Last year a co-worker of mine turned me on to these delectable confections and I've been in love ever since.  Of course Darlene has the usual (i.e. red velvet, lemon, chocolate, etc...) her signature is her Sweet Potato Sensation cupcake and my personal favorite, Strawberry Balsamic Reduction.  These cupcakes are so moist that they melt in your mouth and you can't beat the frosting, great flavor and not too sweet. Did I mention that there was real food here too??  Not just regular food but GUMBO!!!  Along with her sandwiches and scrumptious goodies,  Ms. Darlene has gumbo every Friday and Saturday and believe me you don't wanna miss that.  I love her, this chick does everything!!!  Passions' new location is in the heart of Studio City, so if you're ever on this side of the hill stop on by you won't be sorry!

The Bold & the Beautiful

In Love with this Color

Clean Palette
"Fresh Face"
Ravishing Red
Embrace
Although it's still officially Winter, who says you can't wear a bright bold lip?  Everyone knows that I love color, and believe it or not it's not that hard to wear.  Just pick your shade and go!  I wanted to try some pretty colors that I found at the drug store and a new product, Cover Girl Blast Flipstick. So to get things going you need to start with a "Fresh Face" not this fresh face, we don't wanna scare the people.  :-) My definition of a "Fresh Face" is to have everything neutral and subtle, usually giving the illusion that you have very little or no makeup on at all. Achieving the "Fresh Face"  is simple, to start I have on Revlon Color Stay  liquid foundation in Carmel. I have on Maybeline Eye Studio in  Caffeine Rush and a mean cat eye which I simply adore. I achieved this winged out look by using Cover Girl Line Exact liquid eye liner. A little L'Oreal True Match Blush in Subtle Sable, some brown eye shadow to fill in my brows, mascara and voilà, we have a "Fresh Face".  The most important thing when making your lips the focal point is to EXFOLIATE, EXFOLIATE, EXFOLIATE!!!  I bought everything from CVS but you can go to Target, Wal-Mart, or any other drugstore to find these items.  Now let's get to this color! Red is usually the go-to color for most women when wanting a bold lip, I chose L'OREAL Infallible Lipstick in Ravishing Red. I like this formula because it's really creamy unlike a lot of other red lipsticks.  Next on my list was Embrace lipstick by Cover Girl,  it is absolutely fabulous!
My Look of Disgust, I Hate It!(the two colors combined)
This berry color is gorgeous and is slightly iridescent which just makes me Go Gaga!  Lastly I wanted to try this new product that I keep seeing in commercials and in magazines. The absolutely stunning Sophia Vergara is all over T.V and print ads wearing Cover Girl's new product  Blast Flipstick.  It's a lipstick duo that gives you the option of wearing the colors alone or wearing them together for endless color combinations, if only that were true....Oh Cover Girl you have failed me again. Again you have given me the illusion that the images I see on T.V and magazines will look the same in person (i.e Cover Girl Shadow Blast with Cover Girl Drew Barrymore).  Now I must say I purchased the Flipstick in Stunner and  the colors on their own are great, smooth and long lasting, but if you're hoping to get that two-toned effect then you will be extremely disappointed. The idea is great but needs to be perfected if you're gonna market it this way. Color is not scary it's fun and I hope I've inspired some of you to try something new!  :-)

Pros: You get two colors for the price of one
Cons:  Looks nothing like the ads
